A very fine and beautifully creamy and drapey antique sheet of top quality linen. Sourced in SW France, it dates from the early 1900s and has two very pretty hand-stitched initials M D and some ladderwork along the turnover edge. The large size suggests it came from a large manoir or chateau. Sheets formed a very important part of a household inventory right up to the 1930s, and this lovely example would probably have formed part of a trousseau. The linen is of the finest quality, and the sheet drapes beautifully. Large enough for a UK kingsize bed, it's also very useable today, and especially good in hot summers as linen wicks away the heat. In very good condition, but with one or two very small spots of discolouration (pictured). Measurements are 230cm (7'5") by 336cm (11'). Weight is 1.83kg (4lb).
