Vintage 1989 Gunze Sangyo High-Tech Model 1/35 Scale 7.5cm Sturmgeschütz 40 Ausf. G (Sd.Kfz. 142/1) German WWII assault gun model kit.
This is a factory-sealed first-lot example, with the original shrink wrap intact. The box identifies it as “The 1st lot, 7/1989” and is marked © 1989 Gunze Sangyo Inc. – Made & printed in Japan.
Gunze’s High-Tech Model series combined injection-molded plastic components with white-metal and photo-etched/etched metal detail parts, making these kits considerably more elaborate than conventional plastic armor kits of the period.
The box describes the development of the German Sturmgeschütz III and this kit as follows:
“During World War II, the German Army developed and used in actual operations various self-propelled guns including tanks. In particular, the No. III series of shock-troop guns played an important role almost throughout the War.”
The description explains the progression from the early short-barreled 7.5cm gun through the longer StuK 40, culminating in the Type G (Ausf. G). It states that 7,720 Type G vehicles were produced from December 1942 to March 1945.
Gunze further describes the kit as “an accurate scale-down reproduction of the late model of Type G” and notes the use of white-metal and etched parts for numerous details, including the upper structure, equipment, hatches, wheels, suspension components, skirt stays and gun barrel.
This is an especially attractive example for the collector because it remains unopened and carries the July 1989 first-lot designation.
Factory sealed in excellent vintage condition. Original shrink wrap remains intact. Box presents very well with only minor age/storage wear visible in the photographs. There is some localized bunching/irregularity in the original shrink wrap. No opening of the box has been made, so the contents have not been individually inventoried.
