A signed numbered limited-edition - with minor bumping issues - of this special collection of scripts from the most important plays, films, TV & radio shows etc of Scottish writer, author, poet and artist Alasdair Gray (1934 - 2019). This book covers the period 1956-2009.

One of the most important Scottish authors of the past century, his 1981 debut novel 'Lanark ' is considered one of the landmark pieces of Scottish fiction. His award-winning 1992 novel 'Poor Things ' has been successfully adapted into a 2023 movie starring Emma Stone, Mark Ruffalo and Willem Dafoe, that won 4 Academy Awards, including Emma Stone as Best Actress.

'A Gray Playbook of Shows ', published in this signed limited-edition in 2009 by The Luath Press in Edinburgh, 1st edition / 1st printing, quarto large modern hardback (10.5in x 9.5in), 336 pages. Assorted b&w illustrations and chapter headings by the author.

Hand signed by Alasdair Gray in black felt pen at the front endpaper. Also hand numbered by the author, from the limited-edition run of only 250 copies. This copy is number 165/250.

Bound in red boards with extensive gilt decoration and lettering to the spine and both boards. No dustjacket as issued (is housed in a removable protective clear plastic sleeve, which has a couple of corner splits). Comes with the printed loose copy of Alasdair Gray's handwritten errata slip.

Whilst this is an unread example, which is in internally As New condition, during its time in publisher/retailer storage during the past 16 years since release, the book has incurred some minor wear around the gutter ends and light crinkling to the front and rear upper corners. This minor bumping is reflected in my lower price for this book, compared to the copy I sold on 16 March 2026 at £115.

A collection of some of Alasdair Gray's greatest works, this book includes samples of his long and short plays for stage, radio and television (acted between 1956 and 2009); an unperformed opera libretto; excerpts from the Lanark storyboard; and full film script of the novel Poor Things.

With a range of Gray's dramatic works, this book is a great introduction to the portfolio of one of Scotland's most talented writers.
