Sarto Luxury Tailoring MTM Jacket – Vitale Barberis Canonico 100% Wool
A superb Sarto Luxury Tailoring MTM (Made to Measure) jacket, crafted in a beautiful blue check cloth by Vitale Barberis Canonico (VBC), one of Italy's oldest and most respected cloth mills.
This is a particularly nice example of Italian tailoring and is being sold only because it is now too small for me.
The cloth
The jacket is made from 100% wool woven by Vitale Barberis Canonico, with the original VBC cloth label sewn inside.
VBC dates its heritage back to 1663 and is renowned for producing high-quality luxury tailoring cloth. This is a lovely blue micro-check cloth, with a subtle mix of darker and lighter blue tones that gives it considerably more depth and character than a conventional plain blue blazer.
The cloth has a beautiful texture and drape and looks particularly good when worn.
Sarto MTM tailoring
The jacket is labelled MTM, meaning Made to Measure. It was therefore made to an individual customer's measurements rather than being a standard off-the-rack size.
This is important when considering the sizing: there is no conventional S/M/L or numbered size on the garment — the label specifically states MTM.
Based on the actual measurements, I would estimate the jacket to suit approximately a UK 38–39R. Please use the measurements below rather than relying on a standard size conversion, as the whole point of an MTM garment is that it was originally cut to individual measurements.

The combination of the patch pockets, half lining and working surgeon's cuffs gives this jacket a particularly appealing Italian tailored character. It is less formal than a conventional fully lined business blazer while still being beautifully structured and refined.
The half-lined construction also makes it a lighter, more breathable jacket, particularly suited to wearing with chinos, jeans or smart trousers as well as more formal combinations.
Approximate measurements
Measured laid flat:
Chest: approximately 20" pit-to-pit (approximately 40" around)
Shoulders: approximately 18½–19"
Length: approximately 29"
Sleeve: approximately 24"
I would describe the fit as approximately UK 38–39R, but please check the measurements carefully against a jacket that fits you well, as this is an MTM garment and was not produced to a standard retail size.
Condition
Excellent pre-owned condition.
The jacket has been very well cared for and I can see no significant defects or damage. The cloth remains in excellent condition and the tailoring details are all intact, including the functional cuff buttons.
A genuinely lovely jacket for someone who appreciates proper tailoring, quality Italian cloth and MTM construction. The VBC cloth alone is a significant step above the fabric normally found on ordinary high-street blazers.
