Expertly Painted Watercolour of the Royal Navy WW2 Cruiser HMS London by G. Sidney James.

London (C69) was a County Class Heavy Cruiser of the RN from 1929 until she was scrapped in 1950. She was involved in the pursuit of the German battleship Bismarck in May 1941, spent March 1942 to November 1942 in the North Atlantic on convoy protection duties in the company of several US Navy warships and in both occasions, cracks appeared and rivets popped in her hull, so she was recalled for a major refit. This was completed by May of 1943 and was assigned to operate off the South African coast and then to the Eastern Fleet for the rest of the war.

This well presented watercolour by the marine artist G.Sidney James is in fine fettle and depicts the ship in high sea with one of her sister ships in the Far East dated 1944/5. It’s signed by the artist to the lower right and has a verso to the rear, which mentions a Midshipman JBR as his 1st appointed ship.(Possibly Capt JB Rowbathan RN?)

It measures 15” x 12” and is ready to hang and admire!
