Vintage Metal 1-Gallon “AURORA” Gasoline/Oil Can.  Approximately 9” tall and 6 ½” diameter. Condition is Used.  Good Label –  “AURORA OIL CAN, Absolutely Guaranteed Against Leakage”.  Refer to photos for condition.  Not tested for liquid but looks OK.

Kerosene was first produced commercially in America in the 1850’s.  One-gallon storage container cans were common in most American households by the early 1900’s because of kerosene use for heating and lighting.  The cans were made from either tin or galvanized steel.   A Red color meant storage of gasoline.  A Blue color meant storage of kerosene.

Early kerosene cans (1850 - 1900) did not have screw-cap spouts.  Screw-caps began appearing on spouts in the early 1900’s.
