Custer State Park is home to a healthy throng of burros, who are so friendly they beg the tourists for snacks along the roadway through the park. Known fondly as the "begging burros", locals advise you keep your windows rolled up when passing through!
The park is named for George Armstrong Custer, who led an expedition that discovered gold along French Creek in 1874. The park is some 71,000 acres of rolling grasslands and mountain peaks, gorgeous lakes and fun hikes.
