About Machine:
After suspending its factory racing activities in 1982, Suzuki planned a full-scale comeback starting in 1988.
A test machine was quickly built, and the team began competing in 1987. While previous Suzuki machines had utilized square-four engines with rotary disc valves and twin crankshafts, the new bike featured a completely redesigned transverse V4 engine with a dual-crankshaft layout.
Kenny Irons served as the rider. Kevin Schwantz joined for selected races mid-season, accelerating development; however, the team withdrew before the season ended due to a lack of power and frequent minor technical issues typical of early-stage development.
The goal was to fast-track development for the upcoming 1988 season.
In 1988, the team competed a full season with riders Kevin Schwantz and Rob McElnea.
Schwantz’s dramatic victory at the season-opening Japanese Grand Prix made a powerful statement about Suzuki's resurgence.
