The wide open spaces of parks and refuges

are still home for bison. The grasslands there

provide lots of food for these huge animals.

After grazing on "buffalo grass" or other plants

all morning, a buffalo usually lies down to

rest and chew its cud.

Coyotes hunt for grasshoppers, mice, and

rabbits among the prairie grasses. They also

eat larger prey and dead animals. The coy-

otes' ability to eat different kinds of food has

helped them spread across North America.
