Spotted fur makes it harder for other

animals to see the outline of the leopard's

body. Wild goats and antelope don't know

they're in danger until it's too late.

Mottled feathers help the spruce grouse

blend into its surroundings as it nibbles on

evergreen tree needles, weeds, or berries

on the forest floor. There is one time this

male grouse does want to be noticed-

when he is trying to attract a mate. He

raises his bright red combs, or "eyebrows,"

and fluffs up his tail feathers.
