Sexual Colors is a captivating photobook by renowned Japanese photographer Nobuyoshi Araki, published in 2002 by Intermedia. Araki, known for his unique style of personal photography, has been a prominent figure in the world of photography since the 1970s. This collection focuses on the female nude, yet it transcends mere portraiture by integrating the subjects with their surroundings, creating a cohesive landscape. The interplay of light and shadow, along with the presence of time and space, is captured beautifully in each photograph, reflecting Araki's mature sensibility.
Unlike his earlier, more impulsive works, Sexual Colors offers a contemplative gaze that delves into the inner depths of the human experience. The photographs exude a sensual yet poetic tranquility, leaving a lasting impression on the viewer. This book stands out in Araki's oeuvre for its profound resonance and the subtlety of its emotional impact. It is a testament to Araki's ability to blend eroticism with a serene, almost meditative quality, making it a significant addition to any collection of contemporary photography.
