Classic British monitors in beautiful rosewood
A beautiful pair of Spendor SP2/3 studio monitor loudspeakers, presented in the particularly desirable rosewood finish.
The speakers are in great cosmetic condition for their age and are fully working, producing the wonderfully natural, balanced and unforced presentation for which Spendor’s classic monitor designs are so highly regarded. I've photographed these speakers from as many angles as possible to show off their beauty as best as I can. It's rare to find speakers in this incredible finish all round..... Santos Rosewood on all four sides including the baffle and the rear. In near perfect condition. Truly stunning with original factory boxes.
Introduced during the 1990s, the SP2/3 continued Spendor’s long tradition of carefully engineered British two-way monitors. It became known for combining tonal accuracy and a beautifully judged midrange with a larger, more generous scale than many compact BBC-influenced loudspeakers. Rosewood was one of the premium veneer options available for the model.
Spendor’s reputation was built on loudspeakers created around the principles of natural tonal balance, low coloration and accurate reproduction of voices and instruments.
The SP2/3 belongs firmly to this tradition. It is a substantial stand-mount design that delivers greater scale and low-frequency authority than a small bookshelf monitor, while retaining the open and composed presentation that made the company famous.
These are speakers designed for long listening sessions rather than momentary showroom fireworks. Their appeal lies in the way music flows naturally, with believable voices, finely judged tonal colours and a relaxed sense of scale.
The SP2/3 is admired for its exceptionally convincing midrange. Vocals, strings, piano and acoustic instruments are reproduced with clarity and body, without sounding aggressive or artificially highlighted.
Its larger cabinet also gives music a sense of weight and ease that many smaller stand-mount speakers cannot match. The result is a speaker equally at home with classical music, jazz, folk, rock and well-recorded vocal material.
Later descendants of the design continued to receive praise for their natural balance and musical presentation, reflecting the enduring strength of the original SP2/3 concept.
This pair is in great overall cosmetic condition for its age.
These are genuine vintage loudspeakers rather than newly manufactured items. Minor marks, small imperfections and natural variations in the rosewood veneer may therefore be visible when examined closely.

They are well suited to good-quality British and European integrated or pre/power amplifiers. Sensible, clean amplification is more important than chasing exceptionally high power figures.
Collection from Wakefield is warmly welcomed and is the preferred option for these substantial vintage loudspeakers.
