As a longtime collector of American medical autographs and medical diplomas, I can say without hesitation that this is finest Harvard medical school diploma SIGNED by Oliver Wendell Holmes that I have ever owned, both in terms of condition and the legibility of the medical professors’ signatures. On most Harvard or other early medical school diplomas, the professors’ signatures are often light, faded, indistinct, or hard to read. This is largely due to the diplomas being composed of vellum or animal skin where the ink signatures do not adhere completely or dry uniformly on the surface of the diploma, with noticeable skipping of the ink in the professors’ signatures.
MEDICAL STUDENT William Elbridge Boardman (1844 – 1921) attended Phillips Exeter Academy in New Hampshire and graduated from Harvard College in 1865. He received his medical degree at Harvard in 1868 and began his medical practice in Boston. Boardman was an attending physician to both the Boston Dispensary and the City Hospital in Boston.
CONDITION: medical diploma is guaranteed authentic. It measures about 17 ½ x 23 ½ inches in size and is in SUPERB original condition. There is some minor, insignificant creasing, but NO rips or tears. The purchaser will not be disappointed with the outstanding condition of this diploma.
