This stamp set was produced to commemorate the 48th UNESCO World Heritage Committee meeting, held in Busan from July 19 to 29, featuring Korea's representative World Heritage sites. The individual stamps depict "Seokguram Grotto and Bulguksa Temple," which preserves the thousand-year history and artistic essence of Silla; "Mountain Monasteries: Korean Mountain Monasteries," where traditions of ascetic practice and community live on; and the "Tombs of Gaya," which vividly convey the life and death of the ancient Gaya civilization. The margins feature the "Petroglyphs of Bangugcheon," which depict the lives and culture of prehistoric people carved into the rock, completing the long history of our cultural heritage in a single stamp.
"Seokguram Grotto and Bulguksa Temple," one of the first World Heritage sites inscribed by Korea in 1995, is an ancient Buddhist site established during the Silla Dynasty. Seokguram Grotto, a stone cave housing a Buddha statue, and Bulguksa Temple, a temple complex, are regarded as masterpieces that showcase the outstanding architectural skills and the essence of Buddhist art of the 8th-century Silla Dynasty.
