Offered here is an exceptional antique Victorian brass door knocker featuring a striking mythological design with Cerberus—the three-headed guardian hound of the underworld— crowning the piece and a bearded Hades/Charon figure anchoring the lower section. This is a rare example of late-19th-century sand-cast Aesthetic Movement hardware with strong Gothic Revival influence, dating to the 1880s–1890s, and originally installed on a historical property in Tulsa, Oklahoma. This design (pattern no. 421), originally produced in England, was later recast in the mid-20th century using impressions of the original Victorian patterns.
This piece is crafted from solid cast brass and retains its fully original patina, which we have taken great care not to disturb. The surface shows century-old, undisturbed oxidation. The only area of brightened metal is the small smooth wear point on the forehead of the lower figure—an expected result of more than a hundred years of contact with the knocker.
Despite its age, the striker moves smoothly and confidently, and the knocker functions beautifully. It mounts securely with three points of attachment: two near the upper Cerberus heads and one positioned just above the lower figure.
This is a substantial, highly decorative piece of architectural hardware, weighing 3 lb 15.4 oz and measuring 11.5" tall × 5.65" wide × 2.5" deep. Its presence, weight, and detail make it a superb candidate for installation, display, or addition to a Gothic, Victorian, or mythologically themed collection.
Antique Cerberus door knockers of this size and quality are seldom encountered—especially with untouched patina and smooth mechanical action. A standout piece of 19th-century craftsmanship.
