The Custom, with its original Les Paul shape, was re-released in 1968. Unlike the models produced until 1961, it features a maple top, and from 1969 onwards, the body was redesigned to a layered "pancake body." With the rise of rock music, the Custom's unique tone when distorted gained popularity among guitarists, and it remains one of Gibson's flagship models to this day.
This particular instrument is a 1975 Custom, from the final period of mahogany neck production. It's a 20th-anniversary model produced from 1974 to 1975, and the fretboard inlay features the words "TWENTIES ANNIVERSARY." While black or white Twenties Anniversary models are relatively common, this tobacco sunburst colored example is extremely rare!
Customs from this period are famous as the favorite instruments of guitarists such as Ace Frehley and Scott Gorham, and Nobukazu Omori, the first guitarist of Kai Band, was known to use this tobacco-colored Custom. This guitar boasts excellent string separation and a perfectly balanced, full tone—qualities only found in vintage custom guitars.
While the pickguard has been replaced, the overall condition is excellent, and the flamed maple top is incredibly appealing. Don't miss this mahogany neck custom with its super cool coloring!
Weighs 4.68kg and comes with a custom shop hard case.
