Original antique fashion plate from La Moda Elegante Ilustrada, the celebrated Spanish ladies fashion journal published in Madrid at Alcala 23. This plate is dated 14 de Febrero de 1894, issue No. 6, plate number 2961, and is signed G. Gonin, one of the leading fashion illustrators of the period.
The scene depicts two elegant women and a young girl in fine winter attire of the mid 1890s, showcasing the dramatic leg of mutton sleeves that defined the era. One woman wears a deep blue gown with lace bodice and bow details, another wears a fur trimmed cape over a patterned gown, and the girl wears a sage green dress with a plumed hat. The lower margin carries period advertising text for Guerlain perfumery of Paris and Parisian corsetieres, a wonderful piece of fashion history in its own right.
The sheet measures approximately 10.5 x 14.5 inches, a large folio size ideal for framing. Hand colored engravings like this were produced before color printing existed, and each plate was individually colored by hand, making every example unique.
A superb display piece for collectors of Victorian fashion, costume historians, seamstresses, and anyone decorating a sewing room, studio, or dressing area. Over 130 years old and a genuine survivor from the golden age of the illustrated fashion press.
