The advantages of this product
Tsavorite is a nesosilicate of the sodium aluminous garnet family: grossular rich in vanadium and chromium. Its name comes from Tsavo National Park in Kenya.
Tsavorite is used in jewelry for its green color. It is a rare stone, even more so as its weight increases. It is also expensive and the main reasons for its success are as follows: it is very hard; relative to emerald, it contains few inclusions, is less expensive than it for equivalent weight and color; it does not require treatments (heating, oiling etc.); its refractive index is high; and its color is one of those sought after.
It is found in contact metamorphic rocks, in pegmatites, in igneous rocks, and in alluvium.
Deposits
The largest exploitable deposits are in:
- Kenya
- Tanzania
Small quantities of tsavorites, of small sizes, are found in Madagascar. They are also found in several mines in Quebec.
