Offered is this truley rare matching pair of 17th century solid silver forks in excellent condition only having expected wear/nicks gained over the past 316-376 years. Pair features beautiful lathe turned tips sitting on top of a base with reeded edge attached to a tapering octagon shape handle going down to a scrolled edge three tine fork. The tops look similiar to the backside of the early cannons from the period. Each measure approx. 6in. long and weigh 52 grams for the pair both being unmarked. 

This pair has not seen the light of day since 1862 as they were recently excavated from a dirt floor of a 18th century barn wrapped in cloth along with silver coins which had no dates later than 1862. This area seen alot of action during the civil war and confederate uniforms have been found inbetween walls and valuables commonly buried to keep out of the hands of union troops. I think it is very likely this was the case with this pair of forks and never retrieved until recently discovered with a metal detector.  Would make rare cherished additions to your silver collection!
