This Library of Congress recording of modernist poet T.S. Eliot (1888-1965) reading his own works in the 1940s includes The Wasteland, Ash Wednesday, Landscapes, and Sweeney Among The Nightingales. It’s Record #3 of a 5-record set, and remains in agreeable condition for a release from the 1950s. The recording used the medium-fidelity of its time and captures the charm and authority of Eliot’s voice superbly. The cover is VG, remaining sturdy but with seam splits at the spine and bottom, and a discoloration at the top. The red vinyl disc also grades VG, with audible pops throughout and one small skip in A Game of Chess. The album includes both a 4-page and a 5-page pamphlet with the poems printed and a bio of T.S. Eliot’s works. A fascinating document from a bygone poetic era.
