First edition of this title which formed part of the Fairy Books series. Pages are xiv, 400. In publisher's gilt decorated cloth binding, all edges gilt, black endpapers. Externally good, slightly dulled spine, minor wear. Inside, very clean and binding sound. Tear and marginal loss (including a few letters) to page 329/330. From the library of the late Dr Alan Gauld, an authority on Lang's work in the field of psychical research and a collector of Lang books, with his name and sticker to the endpapers. Andrew Lang (1844-1912) was a Scottish poet, novelist, literary critic, historian, and folklorist renowned for his collections of folk and fairy tales and translations of Homer. Many of the stories for the series were written by Lang's wife, Leonora Blanche Lang, though not credited.
