A very good copy of one of the last in the Fairy Books series, this is also one of the few where Mrs Lang is credited. First edition in decorated blue cloth, all edges gilt. Pages are xix, 361, 8 colour plates and 9 full page black and white plates by Ford, plus many other illustrations. 6 pages of publisher's adverts at rear.  Externally very little wear, head of spine slightly tender, inside very clean and binding sound.  From the library of Dr Alan Gauld, himself an authority on Lang's contribution to psychical research, with his name and sticker to the endpapers, as well as an interesting bookplate of Susan Minet.  Andrew Lang was a Scottish poet, novelist, literary critic, historian, and folklorist renowned for his collections of folk and fairy tales and translations of Homer.
