Please see my feedback. I have been selling amber fossils for over 15 years on eBay and do not sell fake amber only genuine material from now extinct plant sources not glass or plastic embedded with present day inclusions.
This is a truly fascinating, fully polished piece of blue Burmese (Burmite) amber that contains a swarm of biting (blood sucking) flies or midges. I counted around 70 midges in this fossil amber piece!
The blood sucking midges have a short, extended proboscis similar to that of a mosquito from the Cretaceous Period when dinosaurs including T-Rex and Triceratops still walked the Earth. These midges would have been able to draw blood. There is also a beetle with piercing jaws.
What makes this piece more special is that it has a region of a lovely blue color when viewed in natural sunlight! The color can vary as well in my opinion depending upon how sunlight is striking it. This is due to the natural fluorescent properties of this amber fossil.
NOTE: The first 3 pictures and the last one were taken under natural sunlight to show the color.
It makes it interesting to find these blood sucking insects they were feeding on something before they were entombed in amber.
Could they have been feeding on a dinosaur? It makes for an interesting question.

The piece itself weighs 2.5 grams with approximate dimensions of 2.7 cm length by 1.7 cm width and 0.6 cm height. NOTE: 2.54 cm is 1 inch.
Burmite (Burmese) amber has been dated to be Cretaceous in age (around 100 million years old) and would have been sticky tree resin during the time of the dinosaurs and is being mined in the Hukawng Valley in Myanmar (Burma).

Please note that the saltwater test to identify real from fake amber is not reliable. The saltwater test claims that real amber will float in saltwater while fake amber will sink.
However, many amber sources or even specimens will not float in saltwater as their botanical (plant) composition as well as fossil inclusions are such that they are more dense than saltwater and so sink. I do not sell fake amber. My feedback should help demonstrate this.
