No, this behavior is completely normal on the Zebra 110Xi4. The printer automatically detects the absence of consumables (roll of labels or thermal transfer ribbon). These error messages disappear as soon as compatible supplies are loaded correctly. This is in no way a hardware failure.
🖨️ What types of labels and ribbons are compatible with the Zebra 110Xi4 300 dpi?
This printer uses roll labels with a width of 20 to 114 mm and a maximum diameter of 203 mm (76 mm core). For thermal transfer, the ribbon must be externally inked (ink side out), with a width between 20 and 110 mm. Be sure to select 300 dpi compatible ribbons for sharp, long-lasting prints.
