19th Century Chinese Qing Dynasty Zitan Wood Vase Stand

A substantial antique Chinese carved zitan wood vase stand, dating to the Qing Dynasty, probably 19th century.

The stand has an impressive elevated circular form, with a recessed upper display platform surrounded by a finely carved geometric key-fret border.

Below the platform is a carved decorative apron supported on strongly shaped scrolling ruyi-form legs, joined at the base by a circular stretcher. The combination of the high stance, curved legs and open construction gives the stand the appearance of a miniature piece of traditional Chinese furniture.

The circular upper panel is constructed from four joined sections of wood, an interesting feature of its traditional construction.

The stand has good weight and presence and is suitable for displaying a substantial Chinese porcelain vase, jar, bronze, jade or other decorative object.

Condition:

Good overall antique condition with age-related wear, surface marks and natural signs of use.

There are old repairs/restoration to areas of the legs and further old repair/restoration to the lower circular stretcher. These repairs are consistent with the age and previous use of the stand.

The stand remains complete and displays well.
