An astonishing 19th century Russian parcel gilt and painted enamel silver egg shaped box set with natural cabochon amethysts and fiery pyrope garnets with an accompanying silver eagle stand.
The actual egg is signed in three separate places as follows: - Inside the top of the egg it has the Russian 88 silver mark and the St George and the Dragon mark used to denote pieces made in Moscow before 1899. - Inside the bottom of the egg is a makers mark and there is the double headed eagle for the Moscow as well as bearing the Russian 88 silver mark and the St George and the Dragon mark used to denote pieces made in Moscow before 1899. -On the outside of bottom lip which fits into the top part of the egg snugly are the markers mark and the Mark for Moscow production as well as a Russian silver 88 mark.
The stand bears an 84 mark for silver. It does fit the egg perfectly and was perhaps made for the egg at a later date, not sure.
This piece is in good antique condition as shown it has age appropriate patina to the silver and to the enamel and gilded finish. This is a really old genuinely antique piece.
This egg measures 5 5/8" high and 3 3/4" wide.
The stand measures approximately 4 3/8" wide (measured between the tail of the double headed eagles) and is 1 5/8" tall from the bottom of the tail to the tops of the eagle heads.
The photos form part of the description. Like all colored stones there is a color variation that occurs in different lighting conditions both inside but also outside, even the time of day can make the color of a stone appear a little different. We do our best to show colors as we see them. Color perception is highly individual and some people can perceive more colors than others, also colors can appear somewhat different on different screens and devices due to variations in screen hardware and device display settings.
