Description: Presented is a very impressive and beautiful old German beer stein manufactured in the town of Bayreuth in northern Bavaria, Germany, on the Red Main river in a valley between the Franconian Jura and the Fichtelgebirge Mountains.
Made of faience with very colorful hand-painted decorations. It shows fantasy fruits and vegetables symbolizing prosperity - very nicely done in some kind of primitive but stylish, traditional 18th-century style. There are trees on the sides, very typical of Bayreuth. This type of decor was the most popular Bayreuth design. I have two more steins in my inventory with very similar decorations
Nice pewter lid with a lip ring and a large hollow ball for the thumblift.
The body of the stein is in great condition for its age. There is some glaze flaking on the handle and minor glaze crazing on the inside. There are no cracks, chips, or repairs. The lid is in excellent condition with no dings, tears or repairs.
This is a good condition for a beer stein that is about 240 years old - quite a rare occasion!
A beautiful antique monumental vessel standing 10" tall to the top of the thumblift.
