This is a medal/plaque commemorating the inauguration of the monument to General José de San Martín (Liberator of America) in Boulogne-sur-Mer, France, on October 24, 1909. The medal was minted in France, and the word "Bronze" (bronze) is inscribed on the edge.
José Francisco de San Martín y Matorras (Yapeyú, Viceroyalty of the Río de la Plata, February 25, 1778 – Boulogne-sur-Mer, France, August 17, 1850) was an Argentine military officer and politician, known as the liberator of Argentina and Chile, and one of the principal architects of the emancipation of Peru, being recognized as one of that country's liberators. He is one of the most important figures of the Spanish American wars of independence, along with Simón Bolívar.
The medal was designed by the artist Henri Émile Allouard.
Henri Émile Allouard (1844–1929), a French sculptor and medalist, was known for his work in the Neo-Baroque movement. He sculpted several historical and commemorative medals for the First World War and other bronze pieces.
