WWI M1917 US Military Brodie Steel Doughboy "Lucky" Helmet w/ Entrance & Exit Bullet Holes. Under the front of the brim of the helmet it is marked BS and 48 just to the right as viewed. After doing about an hour of online digging it appears that the BS marking on this would have been steel produced by W. Beardmore & Co Ltd of England between 1916-1919 for the US military. Possibly a USMC WWI regimental helmet. 48 is the quality control number to trace the steel back to a particular batch. Obviously this helmet has a pronounced entrance bullet hole and a tramatic exit hole. The only reason I can think someone would have brought this home from the war is because it was their "lucky" I survived helmet. The holes line up shallow enough that it looks like the bullet may have missed or only grazed the soldier wearing it. I have no info on who the soldier was or what outfit they were with, this item came from an estate sale.

Comes from a smoke/pet free environment.
