An original 19th-century steel engraving depicting the arrival of marriage presents at an imperial residence in Peking (Beijing), China.

The image is after a drawing by Thomas Allom (1804–1872), one of the best-known British artists associated with early Victorian views of China, and was engraved by W. Floyd.

Dating from the 1840s, the print belongs to the celebrated series of Chinese views associated with Thomas Allom's illustrations of China.

The engraving has been enhanced with period-style hand colouring, bringing out the figures, architecture and ceremonial details of the scene.

An attractive original Victorian image of Qing Dynasty China, particularly interesting for collectors of early Western views of China, Chinese social history and 19th-century travel illustration.
