ENGLISH STERLING SILVER TRAVELLING LOCKABLE INKWELL
MADE BY THOMAS JOHNSON I 1874
Pleased to offer this Victorian travelling inkwell of rectangular form with a detailed engraved top and thumb lock. The engraving displays a banded deign with 2 Fleur de Lys styles around a circular cartouche all against an engine turned background. The engraving continues onto the sterling frame of the well. The interior shows the original leather seal with sterling backplate with lock nut.
All parts of the inkwell frame, thumb lock and interior plate are punched with the makers mark of TJ, with lion passant for assayed English silver. The frame shows regent's head of Queen Victoria, City mark of a leopard's head for London, and date letter of a "g" for 1862.
Condition is excellent with only one flea bite noted to the bottom corner of the hobnail crystal.
