Purpose & Function
Unlike larger 33 RPM albums, 7-inch 45 RPM vinyl singles were manufactured with a large 1.5-inch hole in the center. These plastic "spider" inserts snap directly into the center hole of the record, reducing it down to the standard 0.28-inch size. This allows the smaller singles to be played on a standard turntable spindle without needing a heavy standalone metal center adapter block.
