THE HISTORY
Ashman. A name with deep roots in British boot making. Their factory was in Paulton, Somerset, and they were producing motorcycle and speedway boots as far back as the 1930s. By the time the 1970s came around they were one of the most respected names in British riding gear. Proper made in England, proper craftsmanship, built to last not years but decades. The six buckle silhouette was the definitive Ashman design of the era. Tall black leather, solid buckle straps running the full length of the leg, built by people who had been making motorcycle boots for forty years and knew exactly what a rider needed. These were not aspirational boots. They were working boots for working riders, and they were made accordingly. Ashman eventually became part of the Frank Thomas Group before the whole concern was acquired by J&S Accessories in 2011. The pre-takeover British-made boots are what collectors want. These 1976 originals are exactly that, and the red stripe colourway makes them rarer still. |

THE BOOTS
The red stripe running the full length of a jet black leather boot was not something Ashman did every day. This is a rare colourway from 1976 and one that very few pairs of have survived in any condition, let alone good used condition with soles showing only light wear. The 1970s design with the bold stripe is immediately recognisable and it is exactly this kind of original detail that makes a pair genuinely collectable. Six solid buckle straps, tall leg, substantial black leather upper. Made in England at the Somerset factory at the height of the brand's reputation. The boots have been properly sterilised, sanitised and conditioned throughout in my workshop and are completely ready to wear straight away. The leather has come up well and the soles have plenty of life left in them. UK size 9, a very wearable size that will suit a wide range of riders. Not many pairs like this have survived fifty years in this shape. Whether these go to a collector, a show or back out on the road where they belong, you will not find better than this for a red stripe Ashman. |
