Condition Description
A finely carved wood netsuke depicting Daruma (達磨) — the legendary monk who brought Zen Buddhism to China and became one of the most beloved subjects in Japanese netsuke carving.
Wrapped entirely in his robe, only his serene face visible, the body rounded into the egg-like silhouette that symbolises perseverance and good fortune in Japanese culture. The smooth flowing robes are rendered in confident, rhythmic lines. Two himotoshi on the underside reveal the figure's feet carved in detail — a mark of quality that extends even to the hidden surfaces.
