Fabulous WW2 Era Merchant or Royal Navy Radio Silent Ships Brass Bulkhead Clock by Henry Browne & Son Ltd of Barking London, an English Instrument, Compass & ships clock maker founded in the late 19thC

Radio Silence clocks play an important role in maritime safety, with their implementation spurred on by the tragedy of RMS Titanic. The radio signalling equipment carried onboard Titanic was of little use since her distress signals went unheard for several hours. One outcome of the disaster was the introduction of the radio silence – a three minute period immediately following each quarter hour reserved exclusively for making, and listening for, distress calls. Radio room clocks have traditionally been marked with these silence periods as guidance for the operators.

This particular clock is in fine fettle with the odd imperfection commensurate with its age & use, its been recently serviced and has had a new 11 jewelled French platform escapement fitted to the Elliot Of London Mechanism which ticks along nicely keeping good time (See video). The original 6" clockface has had the additional 3 minute sectors added in fine pencil and has some wear which just adds to the wonderful patina of a rare Radio Room or Bridge bulkhead clock. It is well presented on a carved Oak rope plaque that measures 10.5" in diameter and has a wall mount to the back. (Comes with key)
