Unusual vintage Changa Mescalero clay vessel from the state of Oaxaca, Mexico.  The people of the southern region of Mexico produced specialized vessels for the mezcal the region is known for.  Many of these clay vessels, known as Chango Mescaleros, were sold to American tourists during Prohibition as a means to sneak alcohol into the United States.  Changos, or monkeys, are known for wild and playful behaior similar to what occurs while drinking mezcal.  This is a rare female Changa, a wonderful piece of folk art for any collection.  The exact age is not known.  She is in excellent vintage condition with no cracks or repairs.  Dimensions are: 9 1/2" high, 5 1/2" wide, 4 1/2" deep
