ABOUT AKEBONO
Chad George Haaheo Rowan, known as
Akebono (曙), was the 64th Yokozuna
and the first non-Japanese born wrestler
to achieve sumo's highest rank.
He dominated the sport throughout
the 1990s and is considered one of
the greatest yokozuna in history.
Akebono passed away in 2024, making
this tegata set an irreplaceable
piece of sumo history.
SIGNIFICANCE
The "Nikkaisan" (日下開山) title is the
highest honorary title in sumo, reserved
exclusively for Yokozuna. This seal
confirms the authenticity and prestige
of this tegata set.
