Steve O'Neill was a long-time Major League Baseball (MLB) catcher, spending 17 seasons (1911-1928) behind the plate, primarily with the Cleveland Indians. He was also a long-time (14 seasons with 4 different teams) MLB manager after his retirement from playing. As a player he was a World Series champion with the 1920 Indians, who defeated the Brooklyn Robins. As a young son of Pennsylvania immigrant parents, Mr. O'Neill began working in mines as a 10 year old, but took hope that he could follow his older brothers Mike and Jack to play Major League Baseball, and did so, becoming the premier defensive catcher in the league. His younger brother Jim also played briefly in the majors.
