This aqua blue Stromberg‑Carlson rotary telephone has been part of my mid‑century home décor collection for about 15 years, and it remains in excellent condition. The plastic housing is smooth and glossy with no cracks, chips, or nicks, and the color retains that classic 1960s vibrancy Stromberg‑Carlson was known for.
The rotary dial turns smoothly; the only missing piece is the small center ring that originally held the phone number card. The handset is still fully wired internally, and both the transmitter and receiver elements are present. The coiled handset cord is in exceptional shape with no kinks or stretching, which is increasingly rare for phones of this era.
This model is built on the same rugged engineering principles as the Western Electric 500 series, and it shows — the phone weighs 4 lbs. 10 oz., a reminder of the solid, American‑made construction that defined mid‑century telecommunications. Stromberg‑Carlson was one of the major independent manufacturers supplying equipment to non‑Bell telephone companies, and their colored sets from the 1960s–70s have become especially collectible for their durability, sound quality, and iconic styling.
Aqua blue was one of the standout mid‑century colors, designed to complement the pastel palettes of 1950s–60s kitchens, dens, and home offices. Today, these sets are prized not only as functional telephones but as authentic design pieces from the golden age of American industrial design.
Please note the phone has not been tested. And in the process of photographing the phone, the dialer cracked into two pieces. I super glued the two pieces back together.
