This print is from the first English translation of the renowned French Benedictine monk Augustin Antoine Calmet (1672-1757). Translated by Samuel D'Oyly and John Colson, the influential 3-volume set was widely regarded for its comprehensive, scholarly overview of biblical history and culture. It is noted for containing 160 copperplate engravings (many double-page) depicting biblical antiquities, maps, temples, and scenes of warfare.
