1986 Talking Lesson One Computer Video Technology – Working – Retro Learning Toy
A fantastic 1980s electronic learning computer, the Talking Lesson One, manufactured by Video Technology (VTech) in 1986. This early home-education machine was part of the wave of children’s educational computers that bridged the gap between toys and early computing, offering spelling games, math functions, quizzes, music keys (DO–RE–MI), hangman, memory exercises and more. It features a red LED alphanumeric display, colourful membrane keyboard and two program cartridge slots on the right side.
The unit has been tested and is working well, scrolling letters correctly across the display and activating the sound functions. The machine operates on 6 × 1.5V UM-2 (C-size) batteries(not included)or a 9V DC 300mA adaptor (included). It is a solid, durable example of 1980s educational toy engineering and displays beautifully with its retro computer aesthetic—ideal for collectors of early computing, vintage VTech items, or nostalgic classroom equipment.
