Real deal Vintage RC racer, still kicking.
Fully RTR. All electronics include except charger
I’m sure in the 80s someone drilled out all this metal to shave a few grams back when battery packs hardly held 1200 MAH
I bought it about 10 years ago and the original transmission disintegrated. I managed to install a modern B5 M transmission and it has been completely reliable. The axles never pop out or anything
The Lipo battery in it is only about two years old and it probably only run about five Charges. Including one this weekend.
The Brushed motor set up is pretty awesome and it’s quite fast at top speed. All my other vehicles have brushless but I wouldn’t change that about this one. Brushed Plus Lipo is pretty awesome. More character than brushless and plenty fast. But of course do whatever you want! 😀
This stupid Futaba ancient servo Is still kicking, But man it turns slow. It makes you really drive a smooth line around the track. I was thinking I would change this out before I decided I should just sell it because I don’t drive it enough.
The guys that race in Salem Oregon and have been since the 80s told me that when people shaved down a bunch of the body pan, it would fold, so I added a strengthening rod you might be able to see in the photo.
Honestly the car has been super stable and I don’t spend hardly any time fixing it. I use it as sort of a skill buffer to race with my son, since I’m still a little better driver than him.
Around 2016, 2017, it was probably in about 10 novice and Vintage races.
So I like to think of it as a survivor that wants to keep on running. But when it’s yours, that’s all up to you.
The three mode throttle control is actually quite useful. I race with it in the middle setting. The low is great for kids that are learning. And the high is for ripping down your street and watching it go 35 miles an hour (Estimate)
