A charming Victorian handwritten poetry album / commonplace book dating from the late 19th century, with entries starting from 1875 .
This attractive small-format album contains just over 100 pages, many of which are filled with neatly written poetry, hymns and verses in a variety of hands. The content appears to be a collection of copied literary and religious works typical of the period, with contributions added over time. Also original poems, some with very young authors.
Several entries are dated and named, suggesting a shared or social use, possibly among friends or family, giving the book a lovely sense of personal history.
The album includes a mix of page styles, including some coloured pages, and displays a range of handwriting styles and ink tones, adding to its visual and historical appeal.
