Condition Note: Truly New Old Stock (NOS). This outfit was purchased over 30 years ago and has remained stored in its tube ever since. It has never seen the water, and remarkably, the reel has never even been mounted to the rod.
The "Far-And-Fine" is widely considered one of the finest trout tapers ever designed by Orvis. At 7’9” for a 5-weight line, it offers a medium-fast action that is legendary for delicate dry fly presentations and pinpoint accuracy.
Condition: Pristine. The cork is "factory fresh" with no oils from skin, no pitting, and no hook marks.
The Blank: The unsanded grey graphite blank is flawless. Not a single "closet ding" or scratch.
Hardware: The reel seat and wood spacer are in showroom condition. As noted, a reel has never been tightened onto this seat.
Tube: Includes the original gold-labeled Orvis aluminum tube and tan cloth bag.
A perfect period-correct match for the rod. This is the classic cast-aluminum, click-and-pawl model manufactured in England.
Condition: Mint/Unused. The rim is free of any "boat rash" or scratches.
Mechanicals: The clicker is crisp and loud, just as it was the day it left the factory.
Line: Includes what appears to be the original backing and fly line (Sold as-is due to age).
This is not just a "used rod in good shape." This is a museum-grade example of Orvis history. Finding a Far-And-Fine that hasn't been fished is exceptionally rare. It is ready to be the centerpiece of a collection or to finally be taken to the stream for its first-ever cast.
