Eleanor(e) Myers Jewett — Egyptian Tales of Magic. Boston: Little, Brown and Company, 1924.

Octavo. Original tan cloth, lettered in dark red on spine and front cover. With the scarce original illustrated dust jacket. Illustrated throughout, including color plate frontispiece by Maurice Day.

A bright and attractive copy of this classic collection of Egyptian folk tales and legends, retold for younger readers. The illustrations by Maurice Day lend a distinctive Art Deco-era charm and are a major point of appeal for collectors.

Condition:

Book is very good, with light general soiling to cloth and minor wear/foxing at extremities. Binding firm, lettering strong. Interior generally clean, with some scattered foxing and a small ownership inscription to the front endpaper.

Dust jacket present and unclipped, housed in a modern mylar protective cover. Jacket shows moderate wear, including chipping and loss at the top edge (notably affecting the upper front panel), with additional edge wear and toning. Despite these flaws, the jacket remains visually appealing and complete in all essential respects.

Notes:

A desirable early printing of this illustrated children’s title, increasingly sought after in dust jacket.
