Bulova Accutron Spaceview – Cal. 214

With Original JB Champion Bracelet

Offered here is a beautiful Bulova Accutron Spaceview, one of the most iconic watches of the 1960s and a fascinating piece of early electronic watchmaking history.

Powered by the legendary Accutron Cal. 214 tuning fork movement, this watch represents a groundbreaking moment in horology when Bulova introduced the world’s first widely successful electronic wristwatch. The movement is famous for its smooth sweeping seconds hand and the distinctive humming sound when running.

This example was just fully serviced by Johnson John of Portland, Oregon, a respected Accutron specialist. The service cost $330, and the watch is currently running well.

The dial presents beautifully with the classic Spaceview exposed layout, revealing the copper coils and tuning fork architecture that made these watches so revolutionary. The watch retains its original crystal, and the lume on the hands and chapter ring has aged to a nicely matching vintage tone.

The case was lightly cleaned during the most recent service, while the original JB Champion bracelet was intentionally left in its honest vintage condition. It could easily be lightly cleaned if desired, though many collectors prefer the untouched patina.

The caseback is marked M4 (1964), placing this watch in the early years of the Spaceview era.

This watch appears to be a correct and well-preserved example, with movement, hands, chapter ring, and case components that all appear consistent with the model and period, rather than something assembled from mismatched parts.

Interestingly, the Accutron Spaceview was worn by Paul Newman in the mid-1960s, before his wife Joanne Woodward famously gifted him the Rolex Daytona that would later become one of the most famous watches in history.
