This coin was carefully lifted from low circulation and has been safely stored in a private collection.

The Coin is in excellent overall condition and displays a high mint lustre but it has sustained some wear and markings. The Coin also displays a partial collar rim error resulting in a double split appearing in sections on the reverse side of the coin.

The 1966 20-cent coin, introduced with Australia's decimal currency on February 14, 1966, features a platypus on the reverse and Queen Elizabeth II on the obverse. The original reverse design of a platypus remained unchanged until 1995. It is a cupro-nickel coin, 28.65 mm in diameter and 11.3 grams in weight.

Value: 20 Australian cents.

Material: 75% copper, 25% nickel.

Edge: Milled.

Obverse: Head of Queen Elizabeth II by Arnold Machin.

Reverse: Platypus designed by Stuart Devlin.

The 1966 20 cent coins were produced in two locations: the Royal Mint in London and the Royal Australian Mint in Canberra.

About half of the coins produced in 1966 were minted in London at the Royal Mint, Birmingham.
