The Campo del Cielo meteorite is an iron octahedrite (IAB-MG group) primarily composed of approximately 92–93% Iron (Fe), 6–7% Nickel (Ni), and roughly 0.4% Cobalt (Co). It also contains minor trace elements, including phosphorus, gallium, germanium, and iridium.

The Campo del Cielo meteorite originated approximately 4.5 billion years ago in the asteroid belt between Mars and Jupiter. It is a coarse octahedrite iron meteorite that broke off from a larger asteroid and fell to Earth around 4,000 to 5,000 years ago, creating a field of impact craters in present-day Argentina.
