Tom Ford joined Gucci in 1990 as a women’s ready-to-wear designer. Within a few years, his influence expanded to menswear, accessories, advertising, and store design, giving him control over nearly every aspect of the brand’s visual identity.

In 1994, he was promoted to Creative Director. Ford introduced a bold, sensual aesthetic inspired by 1970s glamour—sleek tailoring, provocative silhouettes, and high-shine fabrics—that became his signature. His vision reshaped the brand’s image and redefined 1990s luxury fashion.

Ford remained at Gucci until 2004, leaving after more than a decade during which his creative direction became one of the most defining eras in modern fashion history.
