This is a rare, discontinued vintage MAC ‘Currant’ Lip Pencil, made in Germany, from the late 1990s–early 2000s silver-packaging era. Item is in beautiful collectible condition and has been stored carefully. Sold as a collector’s item, not for cosmetic use.

History:

• Mac currant quickly became one of the top-selling dark liners in the 1990s, especially during the grunge and supermodel eras (think Naomi, Shalom, and early 90s MAC counter energy).

💄 1990s Popularity Boom

• The shade gained cult status in the early-mid 1990s, particularly among makeup artists and women of color who loved the richness and depth of the tone.

• It was heavily used in music videos, editorial looks, and runway — the deep plum-red tone complemented the era’s brown and burgundy lipstick trends.

🪞2000s – Present

• Unlike many early MAC colors that were discontinued, Currant remained permanent.

• The formula and name have stayed consistent, though packaging changed:

• Early version: black pencil, white print, “Toronto · London”

• Silver version: ~1998–2004

• Modern version: matte black barrel
